LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Tuesday, May 12, 2020
LIBRARY NEWS
Jodi Bailey met with Travis from Creative Flooring & Remodeling on 04/16 in order to obtain a bid to replace old adhesive that is no longer securing the carpet squares in the children's area.  Their bid came in higher than Jackson Flooring (1 day labor), because the bid included: moving the bookcases, removing all of the floor tiles, installing the new adhesive & replacing the carpet tiles (3-4 days labor).  In accordance with a decision by Gov. Evers, the library building remained closed to the public in April, but Curbside Service was made available to patrons beginning April 24th.  There were 65 patron pick-up appointments scheduled from 04/24-04/30 (six days).  Many patrons remarked how much they missed utilizing our library & how thankful they were that we're offering services again.  Public Works added an outdoor security light behind the library building and they washed the exterior of our front windows.  Jodi continues working on a cost analysis for future maintenance and cleaning supplies.  Jodi learned from SCLS that due to the pandemic and increased patron use, OverDrive will increase its fees 5%, which will affect the library's 2020 Budget.

Self-Directed Activities for adults & children included a virtual BINGO game created by Katy Hanousek to celebrate National Library Week.  There were 41 participants (including 7 lucky patrons who won a local gift card prize).  Also, Katy's "Take & Make" kits were made available for patrons as part of our Curbside Service beginning April 24th (34 patrons chose a kit between 4/24 - 4/30).  Katy has been working with our Teen Book Reviewers & also continues to work from home meeting with Youth Services librarians to re-design the Summer Reading Program.

Part-time staff began working in staggered shifts after 04/24.   Jodi continues working full-time in the library building attending many webinars and virtual meetings (including weekly All Director check-in meetings), answering phones and assisting patrons.  Jodi conducted a Zoom staff meeting on 04/23 to discuss Curbside Service & gradual return to work scheduling.  Katy continues to work from home (Mon-Fri), daily providing support to patrons by updating the library's website, FaceBook page & working on programming (as noted above).
