Library Lynx

10/2/2015

As cooler weather approaches and summer begins to fade, make a plan to visit us at the Poynette Public Library and check out our great selection of books, videos, magazines, and cd’s. If you don’t see anything that catches your eye, we can order materials from other libraries in the South Central Library System. We also have a nice selection of digital magazines available through Flipster to all our patrons. Downloadable e-books, audio, and magazines are also accessible to our patrons through Overdrive.

Patrons are now able to pay for fines and fees over $10.00 with your credit card online only. Go to linkcat.info and login using your library barcode number and PIN. Under My Summary tab, click on Fines and select the option to pay by credit card. As always, any overdue fines can be paid in person at the library with cash, check, or food for fines.

We are pleased to have a variety of offerings for our patrons of all ages. We will be showing Halloween themed movies throughout the month of October. Join us on October 9th at 2 pm for a double feature as there is no school for Poynette students.  The Poynette Library will be showing a kid-friendly movie on Tuesday, October 27th at 11:15 following Toddler Time. This movie is only 35 minutes in length and will be sure to entertain your little ones. We will also be showing a delightful, family friendly movie in the evening of October 27th about a friendly ghost. Free popcorn will be offered at the showings. We hope to see you there!

Adult Craft Night is a new, popular program here at the library. Bring a friend and your creativity and join us on Thursday, October 15th at 6:00 pm to make a burlap pumpkin to display in your home. Craft night meets on the third Thursday of every month for ages 16 and older with pre-registration required.

The Poynette Area Public Library is having a guest author, Kathleen Ernst, present her programs at our library on Thursday, October 22nd. She will begin with her American Girl program for our young readers. Bring your American Girl Doll and plan to attend this special event. Kathleen Ernst has also written an award-winning Chloe Ellefson series for adult readers. She will also have an adult author talk in the evening at 6:30 discussing her 12 years of experiences working at Old World Wisconsin, how that helped to shape her characters, and how she researches and writes. We have wonderful children’s and adult’s display of her books at our library available for our patrons.

We are planning a fun filled week of drop-in Halloween activities for our patrons, a perfect opportunity for quality family time. Monday, October 26th will kick us off with a Halloween Nail Art drop-in program. Bring a friend and paint your nails using Halloween as your inspiration from 3 to 8 pm. Make your own Halloween treat bag on Wednesday, October 28th from 3 to 8 pm.  All decorating supplies and bags will be provided by the library. Join us for Spooky Coloring on Thursday, October 29th anytime between 3 and 8 pm. Friendly and spooky designs will be available along with coloring supplies for this free event.

The Poynette Library will also have a crafts and candy two day event starting on Friday, October 30th at 1:00 pm until Saturday, October 31st at 1:00 pm. Three different crafts will be available for you to create: a ghost for toddlers, Popsicle stick characters, and iris folded Halloween cards for advanced crafters. These projects will be enjoyed by patrons of all ages. Enjoy some candy while you craft!

Patti Herman, PhD., Family Living Educator will be presenting a program on Food Safety here at the library on Thursday, November 5th at 2:00 pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to get the answers to those important questions regarding food safety just in time for the holidays.

Looking for ways to support the Poynette Area Public Library? Donate items to the Friends of the Poynette Area Public Library for the annual Silent Auction. New or gently used items should be dropped off by Friday, October 23rd. Bids will be taken from November 2nd through December 3rd. The Friends are currently raising money for new paint and carpeting. We are optimistic that our painting project will be completed by the end of this year. Feel like giving back during the holidays? You will be able to select an ornament from our tree for every 5 dollar donation given to the Friends of the Poynette Library during the month of December. Our monthly adult craft group will be giving back to the library during the month of November by creating handmade ornaments for the tree.
