Over 214 people packed the Poynette Library on August 1st for our Summer Library Program Finale: Snakes Alive! This is the biggest crowd we’ve ever had for an event and it was wonderful to see so many new faces in the Library! And those faces, (whether they belonged to folks who loved, hated or feared reptiles) were grinning from ear to ear as they lined up from the library’s back parking lot to behind Stylin’ on Mane for a chance to touch a real, live alligator. Many photos were taken to capture the thrill of actually petting or holding an alligator. Even the alligator was grinning from ear to ear!
Thanks to everyone who participated this summer, as readers, presenters and volunteers. It’s such fun to have the Library so busy during the day. I also want to thank the staff for handling the extra tasks of recording reading slips with their usual cheerful efficiency and accuracy. Special thanks to Katy for planning an exciting program for all of us to enjoy this summer.
We are all grinning from ear to ear with the wonderful response we’ve received from the Library Expansion Fund request letters that were sent out by the Friends last week. The donations are coming in from near and far to help us to grow. What wonderful supporters we have! Thank you so much to everyone who is helping us in this endeavor by sending checks, buying t-shirts and wristbands and spreading the word to your friends about our plans to increase our children’s area. It’s a very heartwarming and exciting time for the community!
We have set the dates for our Fall/Winter Silent Auction. We will start taking donations on Monday, October 14th. (We have a limited amount of space in the back room to store things prior to putting them on display.) The Auction will run from Monday, October 28th through Friday, November 22nd. If you have items that you would like to donate to this “Friends of the Library” fund raising event, or if you’d like some unique Christmas gifts, please keep us in mind.
Richard Wilkinson is starting a discussion group at the Library on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8pm and would like to extend an invitation to everyone who’s looking for a forum in which to discuss “timely topics”. The first meeting of this group will be Thursday, September 12th and the topic will be federal spending priorities. Please mark your calendars for this thought-provoking opportunity!
See you @ the Library!
