Library Lynx

September 16, 2014

I am pleased to announce that we have filled the two part time library assistant positions.  Jodi Bailey has been our on-call sub for the past year here at the library.  We are proud to have Jodi on staff for our Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as on our Saturday rotation.  Many of you may know Jodi from her employment as a secretary and library assistant at the Poynette Elementary/ Middle School.  Jodi’s background and experience will be a great benefit to our library. Gerry Heuer is also joining our staff and will be providing service to our patrons on Monday and Wednesday evenings as well as every other Saturday.  Gerry has recently retired from the DeForest School District where she was employed as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.  Gerry also has many years of experience working in libraries and will be an excellent fit with our staff.

We have some exciting new weekly programs starting this fall for our toddlers, elementary, and middle school students from September 16th through December 16th.  Our Tuesday Toddler Time has activities including read-aloud books, songs, letter recognition, crafts, and take-home sheets.  Adults are welcome to bring their toddlers ages 2 to 5 as well as infant siblings to the program on Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:15 am.  Toddler Time is a drop-in program, no need to sign up!   Fourth and fifth graders are encouraged to sign up for book club on Thursdays from 3:45 to 4:30 pm at the Poynette Area Public Library for the Rascal and Raspberry Book Club.  The Middle School Action Lynks program is offered Mondays from 2:45 to 3:30 pm.  A variety of activities are scheduled for this group, including games, trivia, crafts, and book talks.  If interested in signing up, please stop in the library or give us a call at 608-635-7577.

There are some new events scheduled for adults this upcoming fall.  Agrace Educational Institute will be presenting ‘Grief and the Holidays’. This discussion will provide information on common grief reactions, ways to cope during the holidays while grieving, and ideas and suggestions on how to navigate holidays as well as honor your loved one.  Please join us on Wednesday, September 24th at 6:30 pm at the Poynette Area Public Library for this informational program.  We are also pleased to announce the start of our Traveling Adult Book Club.  Our first Adult Book Club will meet at Lapacek’s Orchard on Wednesday, October 8th at 1:00 pm.  You may pick up a copy of the book at the library.  Please join us for a lively book discussion, good company, and some yummy food from the orchard.  For more information, please contact the Poynette Area Public Library.  We will be having an adult contest in October at the library.  Stop in library to find out more!

For more detailed information on all of these wonderful programs and events, contact us at the library, follow us on Facebook, sign up for our email list, or visit our website at poynettelibrary.com.

Interested in helping out the library?  We have our upcoming Silent Auction and are in need of donations to put together amazing baskets to bid on.  Donations for the Auction will be accepted from September 22nd through October 24th.  We are also accepting book donations to help supplement our collection and to help the Friends of the Library raise money by placing donations in our ongoing book sale or by sending them to Better World Books.

With so many new events and activities, we look forward to seeing you!
