Library Lynx

September 22, 2016

Did you know that the Poynette Area Public Library is celebrating 75 years this October? We are very excited to celebrate this amazing event with the community on Saturday, October 1! Katy, our amazing children’s librarian will be leading a storytime, activity and snack, starting at 10 am with a movie to follow. The storytime theme will be Curious George in honor of his 75th birthday, too. The storytime will be held at the Poynette Library to begin our celebration.

The Poynette Area Historical Society has assisted the Library in researching the history of the Library. We are very appreciative of their dedication to compiling the Library’s history for this special event. Please consider attending one of the scheduled tours at the Historical Society at 11 am or 1 pm to learn more about the History of the Poynette area.

We have planned a fun filled evening to be held at the Poynette Village Hall beginning at 6 pm with refreshments and cake. Bob Garske will be recognized for his volunteer work and service to the library. Gary Laib, guest speaker, will present historic information and important events that have impacted the library throughout the years. The Dual County band will have a 40 member band performing Big Band music at 7 pm. We encourage you to join in the fun by listening or dancing to the music from the era when our library was started.

We are looking forward to this amazing celebration and will have door prize drawings for those who attend. We will be accepting donations in honor of the Library’s Birthday. C. L. Richards, a former pastor here, enclosed a $5 bill in a letter sent to the Poynette Women’s club in 1937 “for the purpose of starting a library.” All donations collected in honor of Poynette Library’s Birthday will be used to purchase books for the library.

Long Live the Library!
