E.K. Johnston’s A Thousand Nights shows you what Middle Eastern culture would be like in this beautifully depicted fantasy novel. While reading about the mysterious characters and the mythological beings you get a peek into what life was like for a woman in the the Middle East. I was quite entranced by the story wanting to read it as quick as possible so I could read the end, but when I came to the end I wanted there to be more to read. Although I did feel as though the author wrapped up the story quite well, with no unanswered questions. This book is for kids in late middle school to early high school who like stories about cultures different than what they are normally around. I say this age group because it’s a fairly calm book, but uses difficult words from time to time.
