Family of Liars by E. Lockhart is the prequel to We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. It tells the story of the parents of the main characters in We Were Liars. This novel tells a dark story where not all is as it seems. As they spend time on their family’s island, and life marches on around the main character, we learn about what happens to her and watch as her life takes dark and serious turns. She is not the same at the end of the summer, and the reader is not the same after finishing these books. Due to mature themes, including addiction, death, drowning, grief, murder, body issues, depression, and other themes, I would recommend this novel to readers 14 and older. Readers who enjoyed We Were Liars or other Thriller/Suspense novels are likely to enjoy this novel as well.
