The Assignment by Liza Wiemer is a thought-provoking story about what to do in the face of perceived wrongs. The book follows a senior-year history class taught by a favorite teacher. For an assignment, he instructs the class to argue from the perspective of Nazis. Two students, Logan and Cade, do everything in their power to shut down the assignment they believe to be wrong and discriminatory. As the book goes on, we learn many lessons about their lives and speaking up for what you believe in. I would recommend this novel to audiences able to handle heavy themes, as this book does discuss themes from the Holocaust. Themes found in this novel are the Holocaust, Nazi idealization, World War 2, and anti-semitism. Readers who enjoyed other books by this author are likely to enjoy this novel as well.
