When Chris spends the summer with his Aunt, he wasn’t expecting to fall in love. After almost colliding with Maia during a run, Chris’s summer takes a spin. Chris, who is recovering from an assault after coming out as transgender, and Maia, who is recovering from the death of her sister, discover the nuances of a first love. As neighbors, they can’t seem to stray away from each other - despite their temperaments and dysfunctional good intentions. In Something Like Gravity, Chris and Maia spend a summer exploring their love for themselves, family members, and ultimately for each other.
Something Like Gravity is a feel good, light reading book. It is a tangent of the romantic moments in the Percy Jackson and Harry Potter series. Similar books are The Fault in Our Stars and Eleanor & Park. I would give this book a 3.5/5 star rating because the love story is very capitaviting, but I, personally, wouldn’t mind a thicker plot and more characters.
