Equal Employment Opportunity

The Poynette Library/ Village is an equal employment opportunity employer. Employment decisions are based on merit and business needs. The Library carefully selects employees. The Library employs people who are concerned with the success of the Library; people who care first about the highest quality public service and the interests of the public, people who can carry on their work with skill and ability; and people who can work well with our team.

It is the Library’s policy to seek and employ the best quality and qualified personnel in all positions, to provide equal opportunity for advancement to all employees, including upgrading, promotion and training, and to administer these activities in a manner which will not discriminate against or give preference to any person because of race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, handicap, genetic information, ancestry, sexual orientation, marital status, arrest or conviction record, or any other basis protected by state of federal law. All employees are required to provide proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States. It is the policy of the Library to comply with all the relevant and applicable provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other laws. The Library will make reasonable accommodation wherever necessary for all employees or applicants with disabilities, provided that the individual is otherwise qualified to safely perform the essential duties and assignments connected with the job and provided that any accommodations made do not impose an undue hardship on the Library.

The Library is further committed to providing a work environment in which employees are treated with courtesy, respect and dignity. As part of this commitment, the Library will not tolerate any form of harassment, verbal or physical, with regard to an individual’s race, sex, national origin or any other protected characteristics. Therefore, all employees are encouraged to bring any concern or complaints in this regard to the attention of management through the chain of command or through the reporting procedures in specific policies. All complaints of sexual harassment, or harassment of any kind, will be investigated promptly and, where necessary, immediate and appropriate action will be taken to stop and remedy any such conduct.

All employees share in the responsibility for assuring that the policies are effective and apply uniformly to everyone. Any employees, including managers, involved in discriminatory practices will be subject to corrective actions up to and including termination.

Equal employment opportunity notices are posted near employee gathering places as required by law. These notices summarize the rights of employees to equal opportunity in employment and list names and addresses of the various government agencies that may be contacted in the event that any person believes he or she has been discriminated against.
