POYNETTE AREA PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MEETING
Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 5:00 PM
Poynette Area Public Library
Call to Order and Roll Call - The meeting was called to order at 5:06 PM by Vice President Darcy Miller. Board Members Darcy Miller, Mary Jo Borchardt, Brittney Jackson, Meghan Visger, and Jason Koopmans attended the meeting. Library Director Jodi Bailey was also present. Jerry Pritzl attended remotely. Joni DeYoung was unable to attend.

Public Comments - None
Adoption of Agenda - A motion to accept the agenda was made by Visger, seconded by Borchardt; motion carried.
Approval of Minutes from April 8, 2025 - A motion to adopt the April meeting minutes as presented was made by Miller, seconded by Jackson; motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report Presented by Brittney Jackson - The library checking account at Bank First has a balance of $4,145.92 as of April 30, 2025. The SCLS Foundation account has a balance of $2,077.73 as of March 31, 2025.
Current Budget Review - Director Bailey presented the budget. The balance of the library’s contingency fund is not reflected in the monthly budget detail report. Director Bailey confirmed the balance of the account with the Village Clerk. Those funds are protected by Wisconsin State Statute and are the financial responsibility of the Library Board. The Village Auditors advised the Library Board to continue to spend down the contingency funds, when deemed appropriate.
Director’s Report - Library staff enjoyed hosting several fun activities throughout April: National Library Week, National Volunteer Appreciation Week, and the Columbia County Library Tour. The “Color our World” summer reading flyers were sent home with the children at Poynette Elementary School. The staff attended several webinars, classes, and monthly meetings for planning purposes, continuing education, and safety training. Community involvement in April included utilizing the Bookmobile to deliver books supporting the Pioneer Place outreach program, in-home daycare deliveries, and home-bound deliveries.
Village of Poynette Meeting - No update; Trustee DeYoung was absent.
Friends of the Library Meeting Update - Director Bailey shared that the Friends generously donated funds to purchase a new shade for the children’s library fire exit door & paid for all of the costs related to the Summer Reading Program (baskets, performers, book give-aways, etc).
Business:
1. Approval of Vouchers for Library - Visger made a motion to approve the vouchers as presented, seconded by Koopmans; motion carried.
2. Discuss & review 2022-2027 Strategic Plan and mid-year progress toward goals - Director Bailey shared that when the Library Board begins the process of updating the Strategic Plan in 2027, she will include specific goals pertaining to the building’s future space needs assessment. We have already achieved many of the goals outlined in the current Strategic Plan.
3. Discuss/consider “Credit Card Policy” update - The library’s Credit Card Policy had not been updated since 2007. Director Bailey removed some redundant items and clarified the verbiage. Visger made a motion to approve the updated Credit Card Policy, seconded by Borchardt; motion carried.
4. Discuss Library Space Planning Committee grant opportunities - No updates, still pending.
5. Discuss SCLS & DPI’s response to the March 14 Executive Order impacting IMLS funding - The Library Board will take action to support Director Bailey and Poynette Area Public Library. Director Bailey shared the following advocacy update: ALA’s lawsuit successfully blocked the dismantling of IMLS until the case gets to court. Director Bailey will continue to keep the Board informed as funding impacts are shared with her.
6. Discuss additional digital library advocacy ideas - Board Members will continue to promote library programs and repost upcoming events.
7. Discuss Agenda items for next meeting, June 10, 2025 - Business Agenda items 1, 5, 6, 7, select 2026 Budget Committee members, and any items that may arise.
