POYNETTE AREA PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MEETING

Call to Order and Roll Call - The meeting was called to order at 5:03 PM by President Jason Koopmans. Board Members Mary Jo Borchardt, Jerry Pritzl, Brittney Jackson and Jason Koopmans attended the meeting. Joni DeYoung attended remotely. Library Director Jodi Bailey was also present. Meghan Visger and Darcy Miller were unable to attend.

Adoption of Agenda - A motion to accept the agenda was made by Borchardt, seconded by Pritzl; motion carried.
Approval of Minutes from June 10, 2025 - A motion to adopt the June meeting minutes as presented was made by Pritzl, seconded by Koopmans; motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report Presented by Director Bailey - The library checking account at Bank First has a balance of $4,096.92 as of June 30, 2025. The SCLS Foundation account has a balance of $2,299.11 as of June 30, 2025.
Current Budget Review - Director Bailey presented the budget for the Board’s review.
Director’s Report - Village of Poynette Interim Police Chief Duell is seeking bids to purchase a Village-wide security camera system. The Friends of Poynette Library plans to donate PACE grant funds in support of security cameras in the rear of the library building. Ms. Katy's first Summer Reading Program (SRP) performer, Bubble Wonders, packed the house! This year's SRP runs from June 2 - July 31. Library staff is grateful for so many generous donations made to the Karol Tomlinson memorial. With these donations, the library was able to purchase a new drinking fountain with a filtered water bottle refilling station. The staff attended webinars, classes, and monthly meetings for planning purposes, continuing education, and safety training. Community involvement in June included utilizing the Bookmobile to deliver materials supporting the Pioneer Place outreach program, as well as in-home daycares, home-bound deliveries and Village events.
Village of Poynette Meeting (DeYoung) - The Poynette Police Dept. is hosting a bike rodeo; Safety Fest (Sept); a K-9 fundraiser including a softball tournament (Fire Dept vs. PD). There was a resident complaint that a vicious dog ordinance isn’t being enforced. The family cited a specific State Statute, asking the Village to pay for their lost livestock and the Board approved moving the issue to the County level. Administrator Malin informed the Board about plans for Mr. Teppo’s new development planned for the property purchased adjacent to Sopha Court.
Friends of the Library Meeting Update - Director Bailey was unable to attend the Friends’ July 1st Board meeting, but Trustee Miller was in attendance. Beginning in August, the Friends Board will meet at 5:30 PM on the First Tuesday of each month in hopes of welcoming new attendees with the time change. The Friends approved the purchase of ten new Wonderbook titles for the library’s collection.
Business:
1. Approval of Vouchers for Library - Borchardt made a motion to approve the vouchers as presented, seconded by Pritzl; motion carried.
2. Discuss Trustee Training: August 18 - 21, 2025 [http://www.wistrusteetraining.com/]
3. Discuss the March 14 Executive Order impacting IMLS funding: Our postcard campaign continues through mid-July. Jodi sent 46 patron-completed postcards to SCLS to be forwarded to the Dept. of Public Instruction (DPI).
4. The 2026 Budget Committee - Trustees Jason Koopmans, Brittney Jackson and Director Bailey conducted their first meeting on Tuesday, July 8th, after the Library Board meeting concluded. Trustee Visger was unable to attend. The next Budget Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 12 after the Library Board meeting concludes.
5. Discuss Village-wide security camera system purchase considerations - Director Bailey received the completed bid & scope of work from Heartland Business Systems (HBS). A second vendor that prepared a bid has not yet submitted a completed scope of work to the Village Management Team for review.
6. Discuss additional digital library advocacy ideas - Katy Hanousek is creating a MailChimp style newsletter that can utilize our Canva website slides. Director Bailey shared Columbus Public Library’s newsletter digitally with the Board. Katy is working with Columbus to gather more information.
7. Discuss Agenda items for next meeting, August 12, 2025 - Business Agenda items 1, 4, 6, 7, and any items that may arise.
